A legal practitioner named Tope Temokun has filed petitions before the Ondo State Government and relevant authorities over the alleged brutal assault of a woman, Mrs. Oladipupo Taiwo, by operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Akure.
Temokun, who signed the petition as Principal Counsel of Tope Temokun Chambers, disclosed the alleged brutality in a public statement issued on Thursday, calling for urgent intervention and justice for the victim.
The lawyer said the petitions were submitted to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo (SAN), as well as the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun.
He explained that the petitions demanded a thorough investigation into the incident, alleging that the victim was severely assaulted in an encounter that nearly left her blind.
According to him, the legal action also sought the immediate return of phones allegedly seized from the victim, alongside compensation and adequate medical care.
Temokun further stressed the need for reforms within the Amotekun Corps to curb what he described as recurring cases of abuse by operatives.
The counsel equally noted that the action became necessary due to the gravity of the alleged violations and what he described as initial denial and intimidation faced by the victim while seeking redress.
