Wike revokes PDP national secretariat RofO over ground rent

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the Right of Occupancy (RofO) for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national secretariat land in Abuja due to non-payment of ground rent for 20 years.

In a notice dated March 13, 2025, and signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the FCTA informed the PDP that its rights over Plot No. 243 in the Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, had been withdrawn.

The revocation, carried out under the Land Use Act of 1978, was attributed to PDP’s failure to pay annual ground rent from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025, despite multiple public notices since 2023 urging all land allottees to clear outstanding payments.

The FCTA stated that the party’s breach of the terms of occupancy violated Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.

Consequently, the land has now reverted to the Federal Capital Territory Administration, which will take immediate possession of the property.
