Wike says no endorsement for 2027 Rivers governorship, denies alliance with Fubara

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he has not endorsed any individual for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

Wike made this known on Wednesday during his monthly media chat in Abuja, stating that any decision on endorsement would only be taken after consultations within a coalition involving members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

“I have not endorsed anybody and I cannot endorse somebody until the joint coalition meets,” he said. “We have loyalists in PDP, we have loyalists in APC. We have put ourselves together as a political strategy.”

The former Rivers State governor also declared that his political coalition is not working with the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who is reportedly considering a bid for the APC governorship ticket in 2027.

Wike accused Fubara of reneging on agreements allegedly reached with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly before President Bola Tinubu during efforts to resolve the state’s political crisis.

“You know that we and Fubara are not working. The president intervened and asked for peace, and agreements were reached,” Wike said.

He further explained that the Assembly had withdrawn impeachment proceedings against the governor following the intervention, but alleged that the agreement was later disregarded.
