An unidentified woman has been confirmed dead after jumping into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday.

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this on Friday, stating that the incident prompted a swift response from the Marine Police stationed in the area.

He explained that the woman’s body was later recovered at the UNILAG shore slipway.

“An unidentified lady, whose name is yet unknown, reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water at the UNILAG waterfront on Thursday at about 4 p.m.

“She was recovered at the University of Lagos shore slipway by a team of marine police stationed there and was confirmed dead by UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of a police team from Sabo Division,” the statement read in part.

Hundeyin noted that the body had been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.

The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
