Nine-time champions Nigeria will learn their group stage opponents for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) today when the draw takes place at the Technical Centre of the Mohamed VI Football Complex in Sale, near Rabat, Morocco.
The 12 finalist teams will be drawn into three groups of four. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament, scheduled to be held in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.
Since hosting the inaugural tournament in 1998, the Super Falcons have dominated the competition, winning nine of the 12 editions. Equatorial Guinea has claimed the title twice, while South Africa won the last edition in July 2022, also held in Morocco.
The top four teams from the 2022 tournament—Cup holders South Africa, hosts Morocco, Zambia, and Nigeria—are among the 12 finalists this year. They are joined by Ghana, Algeria, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tunisia, Senegal, Tanzania, and Mali.
