World Athletics Relays: Nigeria to participate in four events

Nigeria will compete in four out of the six events scheduled for the World Athletics Relays, which will be held in Guangzhou, China, from May 10 to 11, 2025.
The Nigerian contingent will feature in the men’s 4x100m relay, women’s 4x100m relay, mixed 4x100m relay, and mixed 4x400m relay.
However, the country will miss out on the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays.
According to the Secretary of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Israel Mfon Inwang, the Federation could not field athletes for those events because many were either engaged with academic commitments or had other prior engagements during the competition period.
It is worth noting that at the 2024 edition of the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, all non-Olympic events were removed. Prior to that, the competition included events such as the 4x800m relay, 4x1500m relay, 4x200m relay, distance medley relay, shuttle hurdles relay, and the 2x2x400m relay.
Since 2024, only Olympic events—namely the 4x100m and 4x400m relays—have been retained. The inclusion of mixed versions of these races brings the total number of events for the 2025 edition in Guangzhou to six.
While Nassau 2024 featured five events, the addition of the mixed 4x100m relay in Guangzhou 2025 will increase the number to six.
