World Teachers’ Day: Oluremi Tinubu urges improved welfare, status for teachers

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on policymakers and society to improve teachers’ welfare, protect the teaching profession and elevate the status of educators in Nigeria.
The First Lady made the call in a message to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day on Monday.
In the message commemorating the day, Tinubu celebrated teachers for their contributions to national development, describing their role in shaping minds, nurturing dreams and preparing future generations to build a better world.
She urged policymakers and the society at large to sustain efforts to protect the teaching profession and ensure that teachers receive better welfare and recognition.
The 2026 World Teachers’ Day is being commemorated under the theme, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing Its Status and Shaping Our Futures.”
