Yiaga: 44% of voters yet to choose presidential candidate for 2027 election

About 44 percent of eligible Nigerian voters have yet to decide which presidential candidate they will support in the 2027 general election, according to a new survey by Yiaga Africa.

The organisation, in its national voting intentions survey released on Wednesday, said 84 percent of Nigerians indicated that they were likely to vote in the election, while only 41 percent said they were certain to vote and had already chosen a candidate.

Yiaga said the findings were based on interviews with 2,470 Nigerians across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The survey also showed that 96 percent of adult citizens had registered to vote, although a significant proportion of registered voters remained undecided about their preferred candidate.

The North-Central recorded the highest voting intention at 57 percent, followed by the South-West with 54 percent and the North-East with 52 percent. The South-South recorded 33 percent.

The findings come amid preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with campaigns having commenced in August but yet to generate significant momentum across the country.

President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress is seeking a second term and faces challenges from opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The three politicians were among the leading contenders in the 2023 presidential election.
