The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, on Tuesday met with the Oyo State Executive Committee in Abuja to discuss preparations for the 2027 general elections, with emphasis on adopting a consensus approach for selecting candidates.

According to party sources, the meeting focused on plans by the leadership of the party in Oyo State to streamline candidate selection and minimise internal disputes ahead of the polls.

The consensus arrangement is said to be in line with similar strategies already being implemented by the party in Lagos and Ogun states as part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion.

Credible sources equally disclosed that the Oyo executive committee was briefed on proposed consensus candidates for various elective positions, although the identities of those being considered were not revealed.

The closed-door meeting was aimed at reinforcing unity within the party and ensuring a coordinated political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party leaders said the consensus strategy was designed to prevent rancorous primary elections and promote stability within the party as political activities intensify.

The Oyo delegation was led by the state chairman of the party, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, alongside other members of the executive committee and key stakeholders.

Among those present were the state secretary, publicity secretary, organising secretary, legal adviser, woman leader, youth leader and senatorial chairmen from Oyo Central, Oyo North and Oyo South.
