Yusuf Buhari joins 2027 House of Representatives race

Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 3, 2026, he expressed interest in representing the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the decision followed wide consultations and reflected his desire to contribute to effective representation and leadership in the constituency.

“After wide consultations, I wish to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua, as my contribution to ensure good and qualitative leadership. Your support will help my ambition to succeed, to bring infrastructural development as well as human capital development to the people of this constituency,” he said.

The move was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the late president, who disclosed that the decision came after extensive engagement with political stakeholders.

Yusuf’s declaration comes shortly after stakeholders of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the constituency.

The endorsement was reached during a meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees from across the area.

Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the endorsement as a collective decision, noting that Yusuf’s candidacy was widely accepted based on his perceived capacity and support within the party.
