Ondo govt eyes tourism boom with Araromi coastline development

Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has said that the state is positioning itself for a tourism boom through the development of the Araromi coastline, with plans to attract private investment into the coastal corridor.

The governor disclosed that his administration is targeting between five and ten investors to transform the Araromi coastline into a major leisure destination as part of efforts to boost the state’s tourism potential.

He spoke on Monday during the Araromi seaside carnival in Ilaje Local Government Area, where he emphasised the need for strategic partnerships to unlock the economic value of the coastline.

Aiyedatiwa noted that the coastline, which stretches about 72 kilometres and ranks among the longest in Africa, has yet to attract the level of investment required to maximise its benefits, adding that the government is now taking deliberate steps to showcase it to a global audience.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at stimulating investor interest, noting that early signs of private sector participation are already emerging with the provision of basic facilities to improve visitors’ experience.

“The ocean has always been part of our civilisation. It is one of God’s wonders. From Araromi, you can connect with the world. That is why people gather by the seaside to relax, enjoy nature and breathe fresh, uncontaminated air,” he said.

The governor disclosed that the state has completed land measurement and design plans for a new beach resort expected to become operational next year, with construction set to begin this year.

He assured investors of safety in the area and highlighted ongoing and planned infrastructure projects as key drivers that would improve access to the coastline and support increased tourism and economic activities.
