Many escape death as truck rams into Akure market

Panic gripped traders and residents on Monday after a truck loaded with bags of grains crashed into the popular Adebowale Market along Ondo Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Eyewitnesses said the truck, reportedly coming from the Adebowale community, was attempting to access the expressway when the driver suddenly lost control, veering off the road and plunging into the busy market area.
The incident, which occurred at about 3 p.m., caused a major obstruction along the Adebowale Road, leaving commuters stranded as vehicular movement was disrupted for several hours.
A trader in the market, Mrs Meimuna Sule, who spoke with newsmen expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the crash.
She noted that the situation could have been worse if the market had been fully active, adding that commercial activities were relatively low due to the Easter Monday holiday.
According to reliable sources, security operatives, including police officers, were deployed to the scene to maintain order and prevent looting, while efforts were ongoing to evacuate the spilled goods and clear the wreckage from the road.
