The Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ayodeji Abiodun Aikomo, has urged law officers in the state to strengthen unity, mutual respect and teamwork in the discharge of their professional responsibilities.
Aikomo gave the charge on Saturday at a ceremony organised by the state Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the Oyo State chapter of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN) to mark the commencement of the new legal year.
In his goodwill message, the attorney-general urged the officers to remain united and committed to the collective progress of the ministry. He said the effective discharge of its responsibilities required an atmosphere free from grudges, ill will and internal divisions.
He also encouraged them to approach the new legal year with the fear of God, mutual understanding and a shared commitment to institutional growth. According to him, officers must prioritise the overall interest of the ministry rather than allow personal differences to undermine their work.
Similarly, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Oluwabunmi Are, called on the officers to renew their commitment to professionalism, ethical conduct, diligence and impartiality. She noted that the authority entrusted to them came with a responsibility to serve the public with honesty, humility and accountability.
Are added that a strong Ministry of Justice depended on unity, cooperation, mutual respect, teamwork and mentorship. She also commended the leadership of LOAN under its state chairman, D. O. Collins, for its efforts.
Earlier, Collins acknowledged the demanding nature of law officers’ responsibilities and urged members to maintain high standards of discipline, competence and ethical conduct. She reaffirmed the association’s commitment to their welfare and professional recognition, while encouraging senior lawyers to mentor and guide younger colleagues.
The ceremony began with a legal procession into the conference hall and ended with prayers led by O. W. Ogunniran and G. O. Sanni, who sought divine wisdom, guidance and strength for the ministry as it commenced the new legal year.
