17 Super Eagles players take part in first training ahead Russia friendly

By Tosin Omojola

The Super Eagles have held their first training session in Nizhny Novgorod as they intensify preparations for Tuesday’s international friendly against Russia’s senior men’s national team.

The 17 players who trained on Saturday included 101-cap Moses Simon, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defenders Benjamin Fredrick and Emmanuel Fernandez, and forwards Kelechi Iheanacho and Akor Adams.

The team will have two more training sessions on Sunday and Monday ahead of Tuesday evening’s encounter at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.

The players and officials travelled on Turkish Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines flights via Istanbul and Addis Ababa respectively before arriving in Moscow, from where they continued their journey to Nizhny Novgorod.

Russia and Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on June 6 last year. The hosts took the lead through an own goal by Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi, before Tolu Arokodare equalised for Nigeria.
