FG to launch 10,600 electric tricycles, 300 e-taxis in North-East — Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima said the Federal Government will, in the coming weeks, launch an e-logistics programme in the North-East involving 10,600 electric tricycles, 300 buses, and electric taxis.
Shettima disclosed while briefing journalists on Saturday after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the President’s Lagos residence that the initiative was part of the government’s efforts to ease the economic and transportation challenges facing Nigerians.
“In the next couple of weeks, we are going to launch e-logistics in the North-East. We are going to run 10,600 electric tricycles to ease the pains of the people in the North-East, and 300 buses and taxis, e-taxis,” he said.
“All these were meant to ameliorate the sufferings of our people.”
The announcement comes after the North East Development Commission (NEDC) announced plans earlier in the year to deploy more than 10,000 electric vehicles, including tricycles, buses and taxis, across the region.
Shettima said the government was conscious of the difficulties being experienced by Nigerians, adding that several programmes were being implemented to cushion the impact.
“We appreciate the pains Nigerians are going through, but tough times do not last forever. Tough people do,” he said.
The Vice President also defended the economic reforms undertaken by the Tinubu administration, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of multiple exchange rates.
