200 athletes for inaugural traditional sports championship

Over 200 athletes are expected at the inaugural Traditional Sports National Open Championship scheduled for August 14–16, 2026, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
The three-day event will feature Abula, Ayo, Langa, Dambe and Kokowa, according to the Technical Director of the Traditional Sports Federation of Nigeria, Abdullahi Libata.
Libata said the championship will showcase athletes’ skills, promote Nigeria’s traditional sports heritage, and help discover new talent nationwide.
“We are expecting over 200 athletes for the inaugural National Open Championship,” he said.
Libata noted that the federation led by Senator Obinna Ogba is committed to developing and promoting traditional sports nationally and internationally.
