Adeleke lacks moral right to seek Fadahunsi’s arrest, says Osun APC
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke for calling for the arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi over comments attributed to him in a viral video concerning members of the Accord Party.
The party, in a statement signed by its director of media and information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, on Wednesday, described the video as doctored and the senator’s comments as having been taken out of context.
The APC said Adeleke lacked the moral right to demand Fadahunsi’s arrest, accusing the governor and the Accord Party of exploiting the controversy for political purposes ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The party also linked the controversy to Fadahunsi’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the recent endorsements of its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, by several PDP leaders and former political office holders in the state.
According to the APC, the endorsements had weakened Adeleke’s re-election campaign and contributed to what it described as the governor’s “desperation” ahead of the election.
The party further accused the governor of failing to condemn alleged attacks on APC members in Ijesaland while quickly responding to the controversy surrounding Fadahunsi’s remarks. It claimed that about 35 of the senator’s constituents had been killed in the last three months, allegations that have not been independently verified.
The APC said it did not support jungle justice or violence but argued that Fadahunsi’s comments should be understood within the context of what it described as alleged attacks against APC supporters.
It urged Adeleke to focus on the state’s socio-economic challenges rather than the controversy surrounding Fadahunsi, while expressing confidence that Oyebamiji would defeat the incumbent governor in Saturday’s election.
