2023: Amuwo Odofin residents vow to oppose re-election of Lagos lawmaker, Alli-Macaulay

As primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) draw nearer, some residents of Amuwo-Odofin constituency 1 have vowed to reject the planned imposition of the incumbent legislator in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon (Mrs.) Mojisolaoluwa Alli-Macaulay on them by the leaders of the party.
WesternPost reports that Alli-Macaulay is a first term lawmaker who was elected into the House of Assembly in 2019 in a keenly contested election.
The residents made the vow in a statement issued on Tuesday under the ageis of Amuwo-Odofin Intellectuals For Good Governance ( AOIGG).
They lamented the poor representation by the lawmaker, adding that she had become a point of reference for legislative failure not only in Lagos but Nigeria at large.
The Publicity Secretary of the group, Mr Mike Wolemode, quoting the President, Otunba Bolaji Babalo in the statement, said that ever since the lawmaker emerged in 2019, she had distanced herself from the constituency and has not been fraternising with the residents to know their needs.
AOIGG disclosed that it has gathered from reliable sources in the APC that Alli-Macaulay would want to be foisted on the constituency for a second term, adding that such decision would be counter-productive and a suicide move by the party.
The residents noted that Alli-Macaulay lacks performance pre-requisite to be returned to the Assembly based on their three years assessment of her activities, threatening that if the party leaders go on to impose her on them, they should consider losing the constituency to the opposition.
“As residents of Amuwo-Odofin who have lived in this noble local government for more than five decades, we have witnessed several era of legislative representations both at the State and Federal levels and we say authoritatively that we are currently witnessing the worst representation at Lagos State House of Assembly. Mrs. Mojisolaoluwa Alli-Macaulay is a symbol of legislative failure and an embarrassment to not only Amuwo-Odofin constituency 1 but to Lagos and Nigeria at large.
“We can count the numbers of time she comes to this constituency after being elected in 2019. How can a legislator claimed to be representing the people and keep a far distance from those you claimed to be representing, most especially at her level?
“The painful side of her representation is that of insulting and arrogant behaviour towards agitations from her constituents whose mandate she is holding. How could a legislator tell her constituents to go to hell for asking questions surrounding her responsibilities as a state lawmaker? All we want the APC leadership both in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government and Lagos State and most especially the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to know is that Alli-Macaulay cannot continue to represent us in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“We have accepted our fate that we made serious mistake voting her in in 2019 believing that as a woman, she would show care, love and respect for the constituency, but the reverse is the case. But this time around, we are backing down on her and will never support her talkless of voting for her in the 2023 general elections.
“We shall strongly resist the imposition of Alli-Macaulay by the APC because she had never serve or protect our interest in the House of Assembly.
“As the primaries get closer, we shall continually reach out to the media to air our grievances and rejection of the re-election bid of Alli-Macaulay because we cannot afford to fold our arms and allow legislative disaster to befall us again as residents of this constituency,” the group said.
It would be recalled that there had been serious agitations against the representative style of the female lawmaker for some years back.
Few weeks ago, there were reports that residential estates in Amuwo Odofin rejected her unusual intention to visit them. The reasons given by the residential estates were that she had kept herself away for years and that the constituency have suffered unimaginable misrepresentation since 2019 when she became their representative.
