2027: Group mobilizes support for Ambode’s return

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a socio-political organization, the Ambode Support Group (ASG), has explained why many Lagos residents are rallying behind the return of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode for a second term as chief executive of the state.

Recall that Ambode, who governed Lagos from 2015 to 2019, lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket during the party’s primaries, a development that denied him a second term.

According to the ASG, the people of Lagos still vividly remember the legacy Ambode left behind during his time in office and are seeking his return.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the Deputy Director of Mobilization for ASG, Dr. Olumuyiwa Olusi, said the impactful projects executed during Ambode’s administration continue to positively affect the lives of Lagos residents to this day.

He noted, “Since the return of civilian rule, Ambode stands out as one of the finest governors to have presided over the affairs of Lagos, delivering results that significantly improved living standards.”

Olusi further stated, “Former Governor Ambode enjoys massive support among Lagosians, whose lives he touched positively while in office. We all understand that he lost his bid for a second term not due to poor performance, but for other reasons.”

He added, “The legacy he left behind — in human capital development, infrastructure, and the overall transformation of Lagos — is still visible for all to see. Lagosians have demonstrated their solidarity and support, as shown by their continued call for him to return and complete the work he started.”

The ASG also announced its readiness to purchase the nomination and expression of interest forms of the APC on Ambode’s behalf if he declares his intention to run.
