2027: Ondo APC clarifies support group registration directive, cites unity

By Boye Oyeyemi
The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed criticisms trailing its directive mandating support groups to register with the party, describing the backlash as misleading and divisive.
The party said the move was aimed at strengthening coordination among groups mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election ahead of the 2027 polls.
In a statement issued on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Otunba Kayode Muyide, the APC accused a group claiming allegiance to the President of distorting the intent of the directive.
The party clarified that the registration requirement was not punitive but an administrative step designed to streamline activities and align support groups with its structure.
It warned that misrepresenting the initiative and attacking the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the party hierarchy could create unnecessary divisions.
The APC noted that such registration processes are standard in political parties, especially during election cycles, to avoid duplication, ensure discipline, and enhance mobilisation.
According to the statement, the directive seeks to harmonise and strengthen the efforts of various groups rather than suppress their contributions, while also highlighting efforts by its leadership under Chairman Kolawole Babatunde to promote inclusivity, reconciliation, and stakeholder engagement across the state.
It urged all support groups and party faithful to embrace the initiative in the interest of unity and electoral success.
