Six opposition parties consult Atiku, Obi, Makinde, two others ahead of 2027

Six opposition political parties have begun consultations with five presidential aspirants as part of efforts to forge a common front ahead of the 2027 general election.
The consultations involved the African Democratic Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, Nigeria Democratic Congress, Social Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party and Peoples Redemption Party.
In a statement on Wednesday, Salihu Lukman, who spoke on behalf of the coalition parties, said the meetings with the presidential candidates took place at different times over the past two weeks.
Those consulted were Atiku Abubakar of the ADC, Seyi Makinde of the APM, Peter Obi of the NDC, Adewole Adebayo of the SDP and Donald Duke of the PRP.
Lukman said the engagements were part of efforts to implement resolutions reached at the G100 opposition summit, which called for sustained dialogue, closer collaboration and a coordinated approach among opposition parties.
He said the consultations were intended to identify common ground among the parties and develop a framework for cooperation ahead of the next general election.
“The consultations represent a practical step towards giving effect to those resolutions,” the statement said.
“They provide an opportunity for party leaders and presidential candidates to deliberate on the framework for opposition cooperation, identify areas of common ground and consider the steps necessary to advance a shared democratic agenda ahead of 2027.”
The coalition said the discussions also focused on strengthening multiparty democracy, protecting electoral credibility and encouraging political leaders to work across party lines to address the country’s challenges.
