ADC accuses APC of plotting one-party rule over expanded campaign council

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of attempting to establish a one-party system in Nigeria through the expansion of its presidential campaign council.
The ADC-PCC alleged that the APC was undermining multiparty democracy by pressuring opposition governors to align with the ruling party or including them in its campaign structure without their consent.
The council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the allegations in a statement on Wednesdayw, describing the development as “political abduction”.
“What we are witnessing is not politics but political abduction,” he said.
Ologbondiyan accused the APC of using state power to weaken opposition parties, alleging that national institutions, security agencies and the judiciary were being deployed against political opponents.
He also accused the ruling party of prioritising its hold on power over the welfare of Nigerians grappling with economic hardship, hunger and insecurity.
“These particular sets of leaders don’t care about the current conditions of the people but how best to remain in power at a time when average Nigerians find it difficult to eat and be secure,” he said.
The ADC-PCC spokesperson further alleged that the country was experiencing growing intolerance of dissent, harassment of opposition figures and the weakening of democratic institutions for partisan interests.
