The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with Darsel, an international education-focused organisation, has honoured outstanding students and schools in the Darsel Learn by Text Mathematics Initiative.
Held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, the award ceremony recognised top-performing participants from among 30,000 students across all junior secondary schools in the state who took part in the AI-powered learning programme during the 2024/2025 academic year.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Dokumu Adegbite, described the initiative as more than a mathematics competition, saying it was designed to address broader social challenges through education and technology.

She encouraged students and school leaders to prioritise self-development and academic excellence. “Education is the foundation of any thriving society. Let’s continue to push for innovation and inclusion in our schools,” she said.
Country Implementation Partner at Darsel, Mrs. Wunmi Tolu-Alalade, said the programme aims to improve students’ performance in mathematics through the use of artificial intelligence and mobile technology. She called on governments at all levels to expand support for similar initiatives.
In the students’ category, Kareem Aishat Olamide of Isasi Junior Grammar School emerged as the overall best student, followed by Olabiyi Ooreoluwa Glory from Ojodu Junior Grammar School, and Quadri Suleton Ajadi from Iba-Housing Estate Junior Secondary School.
Ojodu Junior Grammar School clinched first place in the schools’ category, while Dr. Lucas Memorial Junior High School and Isasi Junior Grammar School placed second and third respectively. Awards were also given to winning schools across the six educational districts in Lagos.
