The stage is set for the 3rd edition of the CAA U-18/U-20 African Athletics Championship, as 35 African countries have arrived in Nigeria for the highly anticipated continental event in Abeokuta.
The latest contingents—Algeria and Morocco—touched down on Monday night, joining a growing list of nations poised to compete in the youth athletics showcase.
The championship will take place at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, from July 16 to 20, 2025. With one day to go, excitement is building across the city as athletes from countries like South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, and Egypt finalize their preparations.
Nigeria, as host, has activated all logistics, including security, protocol, transportation, and accommodation, to ensure a smooth and world-class experience for participants and officials.
The host city has been buzzing with cultural displays and vibrant performances, with visiting delegations, including those from North Africa, taking part in traditional dances and activities celebrating Nigerian heritage.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) held its official congress at the Confluence Hotel in Abeokuta, focusing on the development and future of athletics across the continent.
CAA President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum led the session, which emphasized structural reforms, sustainability, and strategies to elevate African athletes on the global stage.
The congress is a key component of the championship, highlighting that the event is not only about competition but also about shaping the future of African athletics through dialogue and policy direction.
