A 35-year-old hunter, Nurudeen Agboola, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court over the alleged killing of a man identified as Pelumi Chibuezie in Ondo Town, Ondo State.

The defendant was accused of causing the death of the deceased during an incident said to have occurred at Olosan Camp in Ondo on April 2, 2026.

In his argument, the prosecuting counsel, Taiwo Oniyere, told the court that the suspect allegedly fired a gunshot at the victim, hitting him in the back.

According to the prosecutor, the victim sustained severe injuries from the gunshot and reportedly died on the spot.

Oniyere informed the court that the alleged offence contravened Section 316 and was punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The prosecution subsequently requested that the court remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Reacting, the counsel to the defendant, G.O. Falana, did not oppose the request for remand but asked the court for permission to file necessary counter-affidavits.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olusola Olujobi adjourned the case till May 18, 2026, for hearing of the remand application and ordered that the defendant remain in police custody pending further proceedings.
