The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in collaboration with MTN Nigeria, has officially launched free WiFi services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 2, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The launch ceremony took place on Thursday at MMIA Terminal 2, Lagos. The Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, was represented by the Director of Airport Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood. Also in attendance was the Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN Nigeria, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, representing the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Karl Toriola.
The service, which is free for passengers and other airport users, is scheduled to be extended to the MMIA temporary terminal and additional international airports across the country within the next three months.
Addressing guests at the launch, Captain Mahmood described the initiative as a milestone for FAAN and a significant step in enhancing digital infrastructure and passenger experience at Nigerian airports.
He emphasised that the partnership with MTN Nigeria demonstrates the effectiveness of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements in modernising infrastructure and supporting the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.
Captain Mahmood further noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the transformation drive of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
In her remarks, Ms Saint-Nwafor assured airport users that the service would be reliable, secure, and efficient. She also commended the FAAN management for their collaboration and foresight in ensuring the successful delivery of the project.
