Adeleke approves shorter work hours for Osun workers during Lent, Ramadan

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a reduction in official working hours for public servants in the state during the Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.
Adeleke, in a statement made available to newsmen by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said the adjustment was designed as a welfare measure to support workers observing the religious seasons. He noted that the new schedule takes effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The directive, contained in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, dated February 19 and titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,” stipulates that public servants are to close work by 2:00 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays and by 1:00 p.m. on Fridays throughout the fasting period.
The circular reads:
“As part of the welfare packages of the State Government for its workforce, the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Ademola Adeleke, has graciously approved that public servants should close work by 2:00 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays, and 1:00 p.m. on Fridays, during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons only.
“This gesture of the Governor is to enable public servants to have sufficient time to pray for the existing peace and tranquility in the state to continue unhindered, especially as the gubernatorial election is holding this year. However, those on essential services, particularly medical personnel, are excluded from this arrangement in view of the life-saving nature of their duties.
“Accordingly, all political office holders, accounting officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), heads of non-ministerial agencies, local government areas, and Local Council Development Authorities are requested to comply and give the contents of this circular wide publicity among their staff.”
