Court jails man for stealing N240,000 in Ekiti

A chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti has has sentenced a 40-year-old man, Yusuf Muhammed, to six months’ imprisonment for stealing N240,000.
The chief magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, handed down the sentence on Tuesday after the defendant pleaded guilty to the crime.
Muhammed, who committed the offence in November 2025 at the Lekeleke area of Ado-Ekiti, was arraigned on a two-count charge of conversion of funds and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, explained that the defendant sold provision items belonging to one Isia Abdullahi for N240,000 and unlawfully converted the proceeds for personal use.
He further added that the complainant had entrusted his provision store to the convict while travelling, but upon his return, the defendant failed to account for the sales made.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 295 and 302 as well as Section 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
In response, the court ordered the convict to serve six months in custody and also directed that the restitution of N240,000 be made to the complainant.
