The overall best graduating student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Folake Omonitan, has attributed her academic success to discipline, consistency, and dedication to reading.
Omonitan, who graduated from the Department of Biochemistry with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.79, made the revelation in an interview with The Hope shortly after emerging as the institution’s top-performing student.
She said becoming the best graduating student was not part of her initial plan but noted that her mindset changed after gaining admission into the university. “As I said in my speech, it was not my initial plan, but I was determined from the moment I gained admission that when I graduated, it would be as one of the best,” she said.
“I ensured that I dedicated my time to reading and expanding my knowledge in diverse areas, particularly in my course of study,” she added.
The scholar also revealed that she initially aspired to study Medicine at the University of Ibadan, describing her academic journey as one that took an unexpected turn.
Folake said her love for reading made the demands of academic life easier to manage and played a major role in her consistency. “Well, I love reading, so it was very easy for me,” she explained.
She further stated that her long-term ambition to return to medicine kept her motivated throughout her undergraduate years, as she sought to build a solid academic foundation.
Advising other undergraduates, Folake urged students to remain focused and ambitious despite challenges. “I would advise them to keep aiming high, no matter the limitations,” she said.
