Above 151,000btps, NGX All-Share Index hits 52-week high

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Tuesday recorded a significant milestone as the All-Share Index (ASI) surged past the 151,000 basis points mark, pushing the total market capitalisation to N96.13 trillion.
Specifically, the NGX All-Share Index gained 1,516.10 basis points,or 1.01 per cent to close at 151,456.91 basis points from 149,940.81 basis points. On this, the NGX ASI in its Month-to-Date (MtD) and Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled higher at +6.1per cent and +47.2per cent, respectively.
Also, market capitalisation of all listed companies appreciated by N962.3 billion to close at N96.134 trillion from N95.172 billion when the stock market opened for trading.
This performance underscores continued investor confidence and the resilience of Nigeria’s capital market amid evolving macroeconomic conditions.
The strong market performance has been attributed to sustained demand in blue-chip stocks across key sectors, including banking, industrial goods, oil and gas, and consumer goods. Analysts note that renewed investor sentiment has been buoyed by recent policy reforms, improving foreign exchange liquidity, and a stabilising economic outlook.
Speaking on the development, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, NGX Group, Mr. Temi Popoola described the milestone as a reflection of growing investor confidence and the Exchange’s strategic focus on deepening market participation.
“Crossing the 151,000-point threshold is a testament to the strength and adaptability of our market. It demonstrates how local and international investors continue to see value in Nigerian equities despite global headwinds,” said Popoola. “At NGX Group, we are committed to driving innovation, transparency, and market expansion to sustain this growth trajectory. This milestone reinforces our belief that the Nigerian capital market remains a critical enabler of economic transformation.”
Also commenting, Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), Mr. Jude Chiemeka noted that the Exchange remains focused on enhancing liquidity and broadening access for diverse investor classes.
“This new high is a clear signal that our market reforms and engagement strategies are yielding results. We have continued to see increased participation from both institutional and retail investors, reflecting trust in our market infrastructure and governance,” Chiemeka stated. “Going forward, we will sustain efforts to introduce new asset classes, strengthen our technology backbone, and promote an inclusive market that supports Nigeria’s growth aspirations.”
Market watchers believe this performance positions the NGX as one of Africa’s top-performing exchanges in 2025, driven by strong earnings releases and renewed investor appetite for equities. The milestone also reflects the positive impact of NGX’s ongoing initiatives to enhance market depth, attract listings, and promote financial inclusion.
