Abubakar Malami’s hollowness, by Kola Amzat

During a meeting organised by the National Political Consultative Group (North) in Abuja last Sunday, Abubakar Malami, a former Attorney General of the Federation delivered a keynote address that gave him out, as one public figure with absolute lack of respect for the office of Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces, childish, lack of decorum, insolent, brass and more importantly, unworthy of public offices he had held in the past.

His reckless outburst also manifestly revealed that he has no modicum of respect whatsoever for the immediate past president, Muhammud Buhari who is undoubtedly, his benefactor, through whom he ascended from nowhere, and just an ordinary Nigerian, to be the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Federation.

Buhari, his master and widely acclaimed political benefactor till date, shares mutual respect and honour with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. If Abubakar is well conscious of the high esteem the two leaders hold themselves, he would have by now acknowledge that balderdash that came out of his unguarded tongue was good enough to consign him to political dust-bin of history.

For emphasis, it’s germane to revisit his pronouncements at the event. And, I hereby quote him “Tinubu’s policies are crippling the economy of northern Nigeria”

He went further-“Rather than address the myriad challenges bedevilling the country, endorsing Tinubu for a second term in office has taken centre stage in the ruling party”

“Just a few days ago, the ruling party held its national summit and instead of addressing the serious issues of insecurity, economic hardship and rising poverty, it chose to focus on politics, endorsing President Bola Tinubu as sole candidate for the 2027 election that is still two years away” He urged the stakeholders to form a united front to “reclaim” the country and create peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

Nigerians must look critically at this man called Abubakar Malami!

The same APC platform he’s brutally attacking, demonising and condemning was the one he deployed to become Attorney General and Minister of justice which provided him the opportunity to get stupendously wealthy and prosperous.

This writer is hereby alerting EFCC to move with all their might to unravel the sources of unexplained huge funds that Malami deployed to build that 5 star Hotel in Kebbi, as well his numerous Estate built across the country, and high octane properties across the world during his time as Attorney General of the Federation.

Malami as a key figure in several cases of impunity during the Buhari regime, makes him unworthy from offering any advice to the Nigerian public on governance and polity.

This was the same man who significantly contributed to the failures of the Buhari Administration through very hollow and poor advice to the former president.

Malami was largely involved in the undermining of the campaign for anti-corruption, with his undue and selfish influence over the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), leading to the loss of focus by the Agency.

It’s also in the public domain that quite a number of damaging and unpopular policies during the Buhari administration were either orchestrated by his office of Attorney General or he was complicit.

Nigerian people were also in the know, that Malami was a prominent figure of the powerful cabal that almost succeeded in frustrating Asiwaju Bola Tinubu ascendance to presidency.

Away from a series of blunders he committed as Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Malami has no moral right to condemn the endorsements of the president by APC leadership hierarchy and all the key political figures and groups across the country.

If Mallam has not suffered from memory loss and he’s a good student of history, he ought to have been conscious of the fact, that’s how Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the then National Leader of APC spiritedly led the party hierarchy, national assembly members, political groups, leaders of thoughts and all stakeholders to endorse his benefactor and political godfather, Muhammud Buhari for second term in office in 2019, after Tinubu had previously in 2015 almost singlehandedly foisted Buhari on all progressives groups across the country that coalesce to form APC for Buhari to become the party flag bearer.

If the Kebbi born politician has also care to familiarise himself with developments across all sectors particularly within the last two years that Tinubu got inaugurated as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, he ought to have realised that, he’s was just been reckless, myopic, and mischievous by not acknowledging series of transformational efforts presently on-going in all gamut, that have necessitated the unprecedented endorsements of the president across party divides.

It’s crystal clear that he’s deliberately closed his eyes to the present   administration’s developmental foray over the last two years, in all gamut- economy, infrastructures, education, security architecture, ICT, medical infrastructures, socio-political etc.

It’s evident that, he’s not in tune with the bouquet of reforms in Oil & Gas sector that have been driven essentially, by the removal of age-long fuel subsidy, as well as the comprehensive repositioning and restructuring of NNPCL, aimed at precipitating results and significant turn-around in the sector.

Malami is pretending not to acknowledge Tinubu’s administration’s bold and courageous efforts in liberalizing the foreign exchange market, through the flotation of domestic currency, the reform initiatives that has been attracting positive reviews from within and outside the country.

Above are a combination of reforms that have continued to attract foreign investments that will ultimately drive jobs creation, as well as cause the production of needed goods that will significantly improve the standard of living of Nigerians across the length and breadth of our dear country.

It would stun the former Attorney General that just a few days ago, market capitalisation on the Floor of Nigerian crossed ₦70 Trillion mark, a remarkable feat by all standards, and unprecedented in the annals of this country.

Nigeria’s debt service payments dropped significantly from $540 million in January 2025 to $276 million in February 2025, a development that has continued to improve even, till date.

Significantly, federal allocations to all the three tiers of government have moved up in the last 8 months, a development aimed at igniting turn-around at the grass-roots level with respect to infrastructural development, qualitative education for all, strengthening the medical architecture, as well as fortifying all the nooks and crannies with admirable security architecture.

The eyes of Malami Abubakar and his ilk are permanently closed to the aforementioned exploits of the present administration.

That’s why he had the effrontery and unbridled boldness to be harassing the APC leadership hierarchy, members of the national assembly and National Working Committee (NWC) members, as well as other key stakeholders in the political sphere who ordinarily are his seniors politically, and even, in age.

For sure, the likes of Malami must be put strictly where they rightly belong.
