Adeleye wins men’s table tennis at 2026 Lagos NUJ Media Games

Shakiru Adeleye of Lagos State Television (LTV), who covers the Lagos State House of Assembly, has won the men’s table tennis gold medal at the 2026 Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Media Games.

Adeleye defeated Opeyemi Badmus of the Ministry of Information and Strategy Chapel in straight sets, winning 11-7, 11-5 to emerge champion.

The competition, which attracted journalists and other members of the union, was held at the Lagos NUJ Secretariat, Iyala, Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday, October 7.

Adeleye, a consistent medal winner in table tennis at the NUJ Media Games, expressed appreciation to the organisers, NUJ executives, participants, members and his supporters for their encouragement.

Speaking after the competition, he attributed his victory to God’s grace and commended the organisers for using sports to promote unity and camaraderie among journalists.

“I want to thank the organisers of the event, the players, the executive members of the union, all the members and my supporters. The victory was made possible through the grace of God, and I believe that the game is a way of uniting the members of the union,” Adeleye added.

The champion pledged to remain committed to the sport and continue working hard to sustain his performance in future competitions.

The annual NUJ Media Games provides journalists and media practitioners with an opportunity to participate in sporting activities while promoting camaraderie, healthy competition and unity among members of the union.
