Adversaries’ gathering against “anointed one” always end in tragedy, by Kola Amzat
It’s curious that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and other key political figures in the opposition camps have refused to come to terms with the mysterious events that culminated into the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the APC’s 2023 presidential candidate.
It’s already in the public domain that the ex-Lagos governor wasn’t the preferred choice of the deceased ex-president-Muhammud Buhari. The Daura born retired general initially expressed his preference for either Professor Yemi Osinbajo-his then vice president or Rotimi Amaechi, the Transport Minister during his reign.
Much later, the then APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) literally attempted to force on him the immediate past senate president-Ahmad Lawan who they hurriedly chose as their consensus candidate.
In all this, providence with a totally different agenda laid ambush, watching keenly as events were unfolding.
Meanwhile in complete frustration, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his campaign team stormed the Abeokuta in continuation of his campaign tour, where he didn’t only uttered “Emilokan” that famous loaded Yoruba word that has become the cornerstone of his political trajectory, but also made unsavoury comments with particular reference to Buhari’s three time misadventures at presidency and that he could only won in his fourth attempt consequent upon Tinubu huge supports in all facets for the retired general, and more importantly, his audacious emboldening of the deceased ex-president that he would win if re-contest.
Ordinarily, the aforementioned episode was enough to extinguish his presidency aspiration, and perhaps ultimately consigned the project to the dustbin of history. In-fact, the political hawks around Buhari were at daggers drawn and also made frantic efforts to extinguish what was left of Asiwaju Tinubu’s political accomplishments.
But, not for the “anointed”. When destiny is at play, the “anointed one” would not go wrong.
In-fact, the episode seemed divinely orchestrated to provide a veritable platform for the ex-Lagos governor to wear the crown. In a mysterious circumstance, the same “carnivorous” political hawks around the deceased ex-president persuaded the deceased retired general that power MUST move to the South, after the Northern president had been in charge for eight years.
And, during the 2023 APC presidential primary, the “anointed one” dusted all the preferred candidates, with the much-vaunted Rotimi Amaechi and Yemi Osinbajo coming DISTANT second and third respectively.
How the key political figures in the opposition camps have failed to recognize the hand of God in Tinubu’s emergence to lead the country remains confounding!
On Monday, August 18, 2026, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, and the latest entrant, Seyi Makinde have resolved to converge again in continuation of their “moving cycle” agenda to identify and choose one of their group members to square up with the president during the forthcoming polls.
At this juncture, maybe it’s important to drive it down the throats of opposition figures the punishment awaiting those gathering against the anointed one as contained in the scriptures:
BUDDING OF AARON’S STAFF:
“The Lord said to Moses “speak to the Israelites and get twelve staffs from them, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write the name of each man on each staff. On the staff of Levi, write Aaron’s name for there must be one staff for the head of each ancestral tribe. Place them in the Tent of Meeting in front of Testimony, where I meet with you. The staff belonging to the man I chose will sprout and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling against you by the Israelites”
So Moses spoke to the Israelites and then leaders gave him twelve staff, one for the leader of each of their ancestral tribes and Aaron’s staff was among them. Moses placed the staff before the Lord in the Tent of the Testimony.The next day Moses entered the Tent of the Testimony and saw that Aaron’s staff which represented the house of Levi had not only sprouted but had blossomed and produced almonds. Then Moses brought out all staff from the Lord’s presence to all the Israelites. They looked at them and each man took his own staff. The Lord said to Moses “Put back Aaron’s staff in front of Testimony, to be kept as a sign for the rebellious. This will put an end to their grumbling against me so that they will not die”- Number 17:1-10
KORAH, DATHAN AND ABIRAM:
Korah, son of Izhar, the son of Kobath, the son of Levi and certain Reubenites-Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On, son of Peleth-became insolent and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men, a well known community who had been appointed members of the council. “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourself above the Lord’s assembly”- Number 16:1-3
Then Moses said “This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these things and that it was not my idea: If these men die a natural death and experience only what usually happens to men, then the Lord has not sent me. But, if the Lord bring about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallow them, with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the grave, then you will know that these men have treated the Lord with contempt” Number 16:28-30
As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, with their households and all Korah’s men and all their possessions. They went down alive into the grave, with everything they owned: the earth closed over them and they were perished and were gone from the community”-Number 16: 31-33
The two (2) celebrated scriptural events concerning the anointed men of God-Prophet Moses and Aaron-the eloquent speaker, are as depicted above and this should be instructive enough to draw lessons from by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and other key figures in the opposition camps.
For the avoidance of doubt, President Tinubu is not fallible. Far from it! Never! He has his faults and shortcomings like any other mortal. But, he’s the anointed one for this dispensation. He is the man providence has found suitable for this era.
And the best Nigerians could do, including members of the opposition groups, is to rally round him in his quest to bring forth a renaissance Nigeria that would be beneficial and prosperous for us.
Fortunately, he has never shirk this responsibility that providence has thrusted on his path. Since his inauguration in 2023, he’s been purposeful, resourceful, patriotic, courageous and audacious in taking difficult but beneficial decisions that his predecessors have abdicated.
He has initiated multi-dimensional reforms in all sectors, the developments that are currently yielding positive results in the economy, infrastructural development, oil & gas, education, healthcare, housing, social investment schemes and others.
This writer hereby implores the key leaders in the opposition camps to sheath their sword, stop the unnecessary desperation for power and grandstanding, and come to the realization that the nation can ONLY have one president at a time. Nigeria is at a defining moment when all hands must be on deck to bring forth the fruits of the nation for the Nigerian populace. The more opposition leaders distract the president, the more it becomes a mirage for the nation to move into the promised land.
