Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, face South Africa this evening in a crucial battle for a place in the final of the ongoing AFCON U-20 tournament in Egypt.
After eliminating defending champions Senegal to reach the semi-finals and secure a ticket to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, the Flying Eagles have set their sights on the championship match.
Ahead of the showdown, Coach Aliyu Zubairu revealed that the team has been focused on improving goal-scoring efficiency.
The match will take place at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Egypt, kicking off at 4 p.m. Nigerian time.
Speaking ahead of the semi-final clash, Zubairu acknowledged the team’s recent struggles in front of goal but expressed optimism.
“We’ve really worked on the low scoring issue. Yesterday’s session was dedicated entirely to that. Our attackers trained to sharpen their decision-making in front of goal. I believe we’ll see positive results,” he said.
He also confirmed that the entire squad is fit and ready for selection.
The seven-time U-20 AFCON champions will be aiming to reach another final as they pursue an eighth title.
