Aiyedatiwa approves solar project to end power outages at Ondo varsity

The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the installation of a 240-kilowatt solar power system at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo, in a move aimed at ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply and improving healthcare services.
The state Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Johnson Alabi, disclosed this while briefing journalists, saying the governor approved the project to address the increasing cost of electricity at the state-owned teaching hospital and guarantee round-the-clock power.
Alabi said the initiative forms part of the administration’s commitment to strengthening critical public infrastructure through sustainable energy solutions while making quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for residents.
He said, “The Governor approved the alternative energy project to reduce the hospital’s electricity expenses. The savings will enable the management to redirect more resources to improving healthcare services for the people.”
He added that the 240kW solar installation will provide reliable electricity for 24-hour medical services, safeguard sensitive medical equipment, enhance patient care and improve healthcare outcomes at the facility.
According to him, mobilisation to the project site has commenced following the governor’s approval, with work expected to begin immediately to ensure timely completion.
He said the state government was targeting the commissioning of the solar power project within the first month of the last quarter of the year, expressing confidence that it would significantly boost service delivery at the teaching hospital.
Alabi further commended Aiyedatiwa for approving what he described as a strategic investment in the health sector, noting that the project would strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the welfare of residents across Ondo State.
