Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed the immediate payment of 2026 leave bonuses to workers in the state and local government services, alongside the commencement of preparations for the 2027 promotion exercise.

The Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya, disclosed this on Monday in Akure during a press briefing to mark the 2026 Public Service Week celebration.

Odusanya said payment of leave bonuses to local government employees had commenced, adding that the governor had directed the state accountant-general to ensure that state government workers also received their bonuses without delay.

He further disclosed that preparations for the 2027 promotion exercise had been ordered to begin immediately, while all officers due for promotion in the 2026 cycle had received their promotion letters.

On workers’ welfare, the head of service said the government had approved an additional ₦500 million seed fund for public servants’ housing and vehicle loan schemes. He added that loan limits and Duty Tour Allowances had been reviewed to reflect prevailing economic realities.

Regarding retirees’ welfare, Odusanya said the government was working to clear inherited gratuity arrears owed to retired state and local government employees. He also highlighted the harmonisation of pensions for retired heads of service and permanent secretaries as part of efforts to improve their welfare.

According to him, the administration remains committed to improving workers’ welfare, career progression and working conditions across the mainstream civil service, teaching services and government parastatals.

The six-day Public Service Week celebration, themed “Harnessing Public Service for Good Governance,” will feature a health walk, a novelty football match, a workers’ convergence, a public service lecture and panel discussion, as well as Muslim and Christian thanksgiving services. The celebration is scheduled to end on October 18.
