A 32-year-old woman, Adedotun Adeola, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a Point of Sale machine and more than N1.8 million from a man, Gabriel Adelayi.
The prosecutor, Oniyere Taiwo, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on September 4, 2025, in the Isikan area of Akure, Ondo State.
Taiwo alleged that Adeola stole a POS machine valued at N150,000 belonging to Adelayi and subsequently withdrew N1.451m through the device.
The defendant was also accused of obtaining another N395,000 from the complainant under false pretences by allegedly posing as a job seeker.
She was brought before the court on a three-count charge bordering on stealing and obtaining money by false pretences.
The prosecutor said the offences were punishable under the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, while informing the court that he intended to call two witnesses to establish the allegations.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Defence counsel, Lanre Akinware, therefore, applied for bail on behalf of his client.
In his ruling, Magistrate O. T. Lebi granted her bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties who must each provide the same amount. The court adjourned the case until October 21, 2026, for further hearing.
