An All Progressives Congress member in Oyo State, Oyedele Hakeem Alao, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election, promising what he described as a “total transformation” of the state.
Alao made the declaration on Tuesday in Ibadan during a gathering at the Emmanuel Alayande Teachers Resource Centre, where he met with party leaders, stakeholders and supporters.
He said his decision followed extensive consultations across communities, including markets, farms, schools and health facilities.
The aspirant unveiled a development agenda tagged “Redemption Mission 2027,” anchored on four pillars: agriculture, healthcare, education and civil service reform.
According to him, the programme is designed to reposition Oyo State as a leading economic and social hub in Nigeria.
On agriculture, Alao promised to modernise farming through mechanisation, improved financing, irrigation systems and the establishment of agricultural processing zones to boost food production and value-chain development.
In the health and education sectors, he pledged to upgrade primary healthcare centres and general hospitals, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and declare an education emergency focused on infrastructure, teacher welfare and digital literacy.
He also promised civil service reforms centred on merit-based recruitment, digitisation and improved workers’ welfare, while urging the All Progressives Congress to prioritise competence, credibility and unity in selecting its candidate for the 2027 election.
