Alia decries latest gunmen attacks, says Benue ‘won’t bow to fear’

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has condemned the recent coordinated attacks by suspected herdsmen in Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas, which claimed at least 20 lives in the Sankera axis of the state.

In an emotional statement on Friday, Governor Alia described the killings as senseless and tragic, assuring residents that his administration remains resolute in its commitment to protect lives and restore peace.

“As of this moment, we have confirmed the tragic loss of twenty precious lives in the Sankera axis,” the governor said. “Five corpses were initially recovered in Gbagir and taken to the mortuary. Two more were later found by residents searching for their loved ones. One grieving family opted for an immediate burial, and our security forces ensured their safety during the process.”

He added that twelve additional bodies were recovered by police in Logo Local Government Area, bringing the death toll to twenty.

“These are not just numbers; these are fathers, mothers, children, brothers, and sisters whose lives were cut short by senseless violence,” he lamented.

Governor Alia disclosed that he has spoken directly with security operatives on the ground and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down the attackers. He called on citizens to cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible information that could aid investigations.

“To our people, I appeal once again: speak up. Share information with our security agencies. Help us fish out the perpetrators of these evil acts. Our strength lies in our unity,” he said.

Reaffirming his administration’s resilience, the governor declared: “Benue will not bow to fear. We will rise, rebuild, and remain unshaken.”
