A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State and former Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, has congratulated Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) on securing qualification for the 2026/2027 CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The Ibadan-based club clinched the continental ticket after finishing third at the end of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season concluded on Sunday, thereby earning the right to represent Nigeria in the competition next season.

3SC last featured in a Confederation of African Football-organised competition in 1999 during the administration of the late former Governor Lam Adesina, while the club also made history in 1976 when it won the African Winners Cup to become the first Nigerian club to secure a continental title.

In a statement personally signed on Monday, Olaosebikan congratulated the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, the club chairman, Taiwo Lekan Salami, as well as football lovers across Oyo State for the achievement.

He described the qualification as a reflection of the renewed glory being witnessed during the reign of the Olubadan, noting that the monarch had remained a strong pillar of support for the club and sports development in Ibadanland.

Olaosebikan recalled how the Olubadan received and blessed the players and management of the club shortly after ascending the throne, adding that the royal blessing had positively transformed the fortunes of the team.

The former Chief Press Secretary to the late Governor Lam Adesina commended the players, coaches, management and supporters of the club for their commitment and urged them to sustain the momentum ahead of the continental campaign.

He also appealed to the Oyo State Government, prominent Ibadan indigenes and residents to provide adequate financial and moral support for the team, expressing optimism that 3SC would record greater accomplishments and bring more glory to Ibadan and Oyo State during the reign of Oba Ladoja.
