APC recruited fake Accord faction to endorse Oyebamiji, says TICC

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of recruiting a “fake” faction of the Accord Party to endorse its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s Osun governorship election.

The council made the allegation while rejecting the endorsement of Oyebamiji by Christopher Imumolen, whom it said was not the recognised National Chairman of the Accord Party.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday, TICC spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the Accord chairman recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Barrister Maxwell Obinali Mgbudem, remained firmly behind Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.

Olajengbesi accused Imumolen of “erroneously” claiming to lead a faction of the party, saying the APC’s decision to associate with him was an attempt to create a false impression about Accord’s position ahead of the election.

“To put the records straight, the officially recognised National Chairman of the Accord Party by INEC is Barrister Maxwell Obinali Mgbudem, who is solidly behind Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election and continuity in Osun State,” he said.

He described the endorsement as a “ridiculous stage drama,” alleging that the APC resorted to the move because it was unpopular ahead of the election.

The council urged voters to disregard what it described as false and misleading narratives, saying the people of Osun remained committed to re-electing Adeleke.

“We urge the public to dismiss the misleading narrative pushed out by the opposition, who are jittery over their impending defeat on Saturday,” Olajengbesi added.
