Atiku camp alleges intimidation by Tinubu’s son, calls for urgent probe

The media office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to restrain his son, Seyi Tinubu, following serious allegations of assault and intimidation.

According to a statement by Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Adebayo Atiku Isah, alleged he was abducted, assaulted, and offered a bribe by Seyi Tinubu to secure political loyalty for the Tinubu administration.

“These are grave allegations that strike at the heart of civil liberties,” the statement said. “That such claims involve a member of the First Family raises disturbing concerns about the abuse of power and the integrity of state institutions.”

Ibe warned that if the incident had turned fatal, it would have further stained the country’s worsening human rights record. He also raised alarm over reports suggesting that top security officials may be acting under Seyi Tinubu’s influence—calling it “an unacceptable compromise of state authority.”

“It is intolerable for any member of the First Family to attempt to intimidate civil society through threats, bribes, or violence,” Ibe stated. “Nigeria is a democratic republic, not a family estate.”

Addressing attempts to link Atiku Abubakar to the controversy, the media office dismissed the claims as “baseless and desperate.” It clarified that Atiku’s meeting with Comrade Isah was focused on education reform and student welfare.

The Atiku camp is demanding an independent investigation, expressing concerns that law enforcement agencies may already be compromised.

“We issue a clear warning: nothing must happen to this young man. Nigerians deserve truth, accountability, and leadership that upholds the rule of law—not one that uses power to silence dissent,” the statement concluded.
