Borno releases comprehensive list of pledges for Maiduguri flood victims
By Kunle Sanni
The Borno State government has unveiled an extensive list of pledges and donations made by various stakeholders to assist victims of the recent catastrophic flood in Maiduguri.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Abdurrahman Bundi, media aide to Borno Governor Babagana Zulum, clarified that while many pledges have been made, not all contributions have been credited to the Maiduguri relief fund yet.
Bundi assured that the state government will provide regular updates on fulfilled donations, both in cash and material aid, as they are redeemed.
The pledges, which come from state and national assembly members, state governments, agencies, NGOs, and individuals, aim to provide relief for the thousands displaced by the disaster.
The flood, triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam last week, unleashed a devastating torrent of water that swept through Maiduguri, displacing over one million people and causing widespread destruction. The disaster has so far claimed 37 lives, left 58 people injured, and affected over 40,000 residents.
Considered one of the worst floods in the region in over 30 years, the event has left countless families without homes, access to healthcare, education, clean water, and food. The Borno State government, in collaboration with several bodies, is working to mobilize resources to alleviate the suffering of the affected population.
