BREAKING: Aiyedatiwa raises tertiary institutions’ subvention by 60%

By Boye Oyeyemi

The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved a 60 per cent increase in the monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.

The governor also approved the immediate implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and university unions in the affected state-owned institutions.

The two measures, which take effect from August, are aimed at strengthening the institutions’ finances, ensuring regular payment of salaries and improving the welfare of workers.

The state government said the implementation of the FG-unions agreement was also intended to address longstanding welfare concerns and align the institutions with national standards.

In a statement on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the interventions were part of Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to improving education and workers’ welfare.

Adeniyan quoted the governor as directing the management of the institutions to ensure judicious use of the increased subvention, with priority given to staff welfare and academic excellence.

Aiyedatiwa also urged the unions to reciprocate the government’s gesture by maintaining industrial harmony and concentrating on providing quality education to students.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Ondo State a hub for quality tertiary education, promising continued support for state-owned institutions.
