BREAKING: Oyo lifts curfew in 10 LGAs, assures residents of improved security

By Adejayan Gbenga –

The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent abduction of pupils, teachers and other school workers in Oriire Local Government Area, saying residents can immediately resume their normal activities.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced the decision on Saturday, explaining that the government reviewed the security situation before relaxing the restrictions.

Oyelade said security agencies remain on high alert and are continuing coordinated operations to restore lasting peace and protect lives and property across the affected communities.

The curfew was imposed after armed kidnappers attacked a school in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting pupils, teachers and other staff members in an incident that triggered widespread fear among residents.

As part of the emergency security measures, the state government extended the curfew to 10 local government areas and banned motorcycle movement within the affected councils to restrict the mobility of criminals and support rescue operations.

The school attack renewed concerns over insecurity in Oyo State, where recurring cases of kidnapping and violent attacks have heightened fears among residents, particularly in rural communities.

The incident also drew widespread condemnation from residents and stakeholders, who urged the government to strengthen security around schools, highways and other vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks.

Oyelade thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the curfew, reiterating the government’s commitment to securing the release of the abducted victims and sustaining collaboration with security agencies to combat crime across the state.
