Operatives of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps have arrested a 35-year-old suspected gunrunner and alleged armourer for the Aiye cult group during a surveillance operation in Imota, Ikorodu, recovering several firearms and other dangerous items.

The suspect, identified as Jelili Adeyemo, was apprehended in the early hours of Saturday following intensified surveillance by officers of the LNSC Imota Command in response to complaints by residents of the Araromi community over repeated theft of petrol from parked vehicles.

According to the agency, operatives intercepted Adeyemo around 2 a.m. after observing his suspicious movements, leading to his arrest and subsequent investigation.

A follow-up search at another residence linked to the suspect at No. 13 Agundugbun St., Imota, led to the recovery of two locally made long guns, three locally made short guns, military camouflage items, jack knives, a stun device, cutlasses, metal handcuffs, spent cartridges and other exhibits.

The LNSC said the suspect allegedly confessed to keeping the firearms on behalf of members of the Aiye cult group, adding that the recovered weapons are expected to aid ongoing investigations into criminal activities in the area.

The agency disclosed that the suspect and all recovered exhibits have been transferred to the Imota Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commenting on the operation, the General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, said the arrest demonstrated the agency’s commitment to supporting efforts to combat crime and improve public safety across the state through intelligence-led operations.

Oyekan urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that community collaboration remains critical to tackling crime and maintaining peace in neighbourhoods across Lagos State.
