Properties worth several millions of naira were destroyed when fire razed several shops at Agodi-Gate in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday night.
WESTERN POST learnt that the incident was caused by an electricity surge near combustible materials.
Despite the swift response of firefighters, the inferno affected no fewer than 12 shops.
“The fire personnel, led by CFS Jimoh, were promptly deployed to the scene of the fire incident. On arrival, we met some lock-up shops well alight, and we swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other nearby shops.
“The fire affected 12 out of a large number of shops, and we were able to save property worth billions of naira in the market. The appliance returned to the station by 03:18 hrs and is on standby,” the General Manager of the State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed on Friday.
The recent inferno comes just weeks after the unfortunate fire incident at the popular Aleshinloye Market, which left several traders devastated.
