CAN at 50: Oluremi Tinubu calls for unity among Christians

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Christian leaders to strengthen unity among different denominations, saying love remains the foundation of the Christian faith.

She made the call on Saturday at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which featured an awards ceremony and thanksgiving service.

Tinubu commended CAN’s leadership and members for their commitment to spreading the gospel but urged them to remain focused on achieving greater unity within the association.

She said the anniversary theme, “Walking Together in Faith”, reflected the prayer of Jesus Christ for unity among his followers, as recorded in John 17:21-22.

“I pray as Christ has prayed over the saints that all the Christian blocs that make up CAN will continue to be one in Jesus’ name,” she said.

The First Lady, who received an Award of Excellence at the event, said the recognition would inspire her to do more in serving God and humanity.

“I want you to know that this award is a call to greater work in service to God and humanity,” she said.

CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said the association was repositioning itself to play a greater role in nation-building after 50 years of promoting unity among Christians.
