Carrick begins United reign with 2-0 derby win over Man City
Manchester United defeated Manchester City 2–0 at Old Trafford on Saturday, handing interim manager Michael Carrick a winning start and denting their rivals’ Premier League title ambitions.
Second-half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu sealed the victory in a keenly contested Manchester derby, lifting United to fourth place on the league table.
Mbeumo opened the scoring after the break, finishing confidently to spark celebrations among the home supporters, before Dorgu added a second to put the result beyond City’s reach.
The win leaves City six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal, dealing a significant setback to their title push, while United’s resurgence under Carrick provides a timely boost to their campaign.
Carrick, taking charge on an interim basis, will be encouraged by the disciplined performance and attacking efficiency shown by his side against one of the league’s strongest teams.
