Colour, chants and mobilisation as Agege APC unveils campaign for candidates

The political temperature in Agege rose recently as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagged off its campaign for the general election with a colourful rally at Amoo Field, Orile Agege.

Led by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and APC House of Representatives candidate for Agege Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, the rally attracted party leaders, traditional and religious rulers, trade associations, artisans and representatives of non-Yoruba communities.

Despite the scorching midday sun, supporters turned out in large numbers, many dressed in branded vests bearing the photographs of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos APC governorship candidate Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule and Obasa.

Addressing the gathering, Obasa urged party members to take the campaign beyond the rally ground through door-to-door mobilisation, saying the APC must translate its numerical strength in Agege into votes and improve on its previous electoral performance.

“Let us join hands and make sure we deliver. It is not just about victory; we must surpass our previous votes,” Obasa told the cheering supporters.

He urged party members to spread the APC message among trade associations, artisans, religious and traditional leaders and community groups, adding “Sound it loud to everybody, all trade associations, artisans, tribes, religious and traditional leaders. We have the numbers, and we will pour it into the APC”.

Obasa called on supporters to mobilise votes for Tinubu, Hamzat, Adebule and himself, stressing that the campaign should continue across markets, workshops, places of worship and community associations until election day.

The Speaker also used the occasion to address concerns about opposition voices and reports of disagreements within the party, insisting that the large turnout demonstrated the cohesion of the APC structure in Agege. “Agege is always one. And we will continue to be one. There is nothing wrong with our party in Agege,” he said.

On critics and opposition voices, Obasa said: “There will always be detractors, but we will not listen to the din of the marketplace because no matter what you do, you will never be loved by the enemy.”

He, however, urged supporters to maintain peace as political activities intensify, saying voters should be allowed to freely choose their representatives.

“We must try to avoid conflict, because at the end of the day, the people will vote for their representatives, the people they truly want. Nobody can force anyone on the people,” he said.

As the rally ended, chants, campaign songs, colourful banners and branded vests remained prominent, with supporters celebrating Obasa and the APC. The event marked the beginning of a wider mobilisation effort, with the party now tasked with converting its grassroots campaign into votes when Agege residents head to the polling units.
